Tips to Remember Names

The ability to remember people’s names is an extremely positive skill, in business and social interactions. Do you remember how impressed or surprised you were the last time someone remembered your name? I still get impressed, and I tend to remember these people in an especially warm and friendly light.

I have a simple and distinct, short and easy to remember name , which I need to thanks to my family. I often fall victim to the embarrassment of not remembering names of people who approach me. My mind would go into panic, thinking “Oh crap! What’s her/his name again?”

I found the following tips and I am in the process to develop the following techniques to help myself remember names. I want to share these with you, and hope that you will find them as valuable:

1. Trust Yourself

Tell yourself, “I am fantastic at remembering names! And I’m gonna practicing start now.”

2. Seeing Faces

If you know another person with the same name, try the following:

See that person’s face in your imagination.

Now, see the person’s face bounce up-and-down (perhaps smiling at you).

Now, see the new person’s face, bouncing up-and-down beside the first face.

Repeat steps A to C several times

3. Using Sound Tricks

If you do not know another person with this same, try the following mnemonics using sound:

Repeat their names several times in your head, while noting the following:

Exaggerate the sounds. Prolong the syllables. Ie. “Ro-sse!” The funnier, the funkier and disturbing, the better for remembering.

Chunking‘ - Break the name into several distinguishable parts/words.

Associate parts of name with words you’re already familiar with and can easily pronounce. Ie. “Ramesh” = Mesh, Mash

Create a story - Especially great for foreign, long or unusual names. I sometimes find it helpful to create a little story containing familiar words from step b to serve as memorable cues. Make the story highly visual, especially great if the story sounds silly and makes you laugh.
Example, “Bengodi” -> Ben Afflect is going to become a deejay.”

4. Hear the Sounds Repeated

Look into their eyes while being introduced and repeat their name several times out aloud.
I like asking the following questions after being introduced. The reason I ask is to give me additional time and opportunity to practice their names on the spot:

“Did I pronounce it correctly?”

“How do you pronounce that?”

“Could you repeat it?”

I would repeat it several times after they answer the question, and check with them that I’ve got the correct pronunciation. Again, this technique gives me an excuse to practice their names, also ensures that I’m pronouncing it right. People typically do not mind to help you learn their names.

5. See the Spelling Visually

Practice seeing each letter clearly in your mind. Sound out each letter as you see them. Repeat the process of seeing and hearing each letter in sequence.
Example. “Tyler” - “Tee, Y, L, E, R, Tyler!”

Two tips for this technique:

Clarify Spelling - Ask “How do you spell that?” This gives extra time and chance to practice the technique. Make sure to repeat the letters back to the person (and see the letters as you say it). Don’t worry about sounding or looking silly. If you are genuine about learning someone’s name, they will actually appreciate it.

“Dancing Letters” - As you pass through each letter, see it move a little. It could be shaking, bouncing, wobbling in its place. This will help your mind to remain the memory.

6. Writing it Down

Always useful to have some scrap paper and pen with you. Better yet, use your notebook if you carry one. When the person is not looking or when you are in the bathroom, quickly jot down the names or sounds of names.

(Optionally) write a one-liner description beside the name

At conferences, I will have a page in my notebook dedicated to names. After meeting someone new, I would write it down in this page along with a quick distinct reminder about that person.

Examples:

i. “John, the real estate guy from Portland.”
ii. “Zoe, the myspace programmer.”

I like dumping names on paper or in a record (Item 6 below). Using this technique, I don’t need to carry it around in my mind and be constantly reminding myself of it.

7. Keeping Records

Keep a file on your computer, or even better yet, use google docs (virtual WORD documents). Call it “The Name Record” or TNR.

I use this to record names of people who I may come in contact with again. I use this to record names of people from my building (as I meet them), and for anyone I meet at any gathering I attend. When writing down a name, it is important to associate the name with a memorable fact or story.

Example entries:

“Unit 406 - Manik, Indian guy, very nice, 30 years old, works at Boeing.”

“Derek - friend of Josh. music director, they went to same college, big eyes, sarcastic.”

Try using these techniques one at a time. Practice, and when you feel comfortable, try another. Believe in yourself; the more you want to remember a name, the easier it will come.

I am trying to get smarter about saving so I am more conscious about my spending in even basic stuff. However, I realized, I need to be careful to sacrifice quality to save some money, especially since junk food prices are the cheapest comparing to vegetables and fresh fruits. I found this information regarding smart shopping that can actually save you money:

1. Splurge on nutrition: Consider it an investment in your future. Suggestion: pack as much nutrition as possible into the foods you buy.

2. Eat before you shop: You will spend more if you shop with a stimulated appetite.

3. Check yourself out: Checkout lines are stocked with high-calorie sweets.

4. Learn the lingo:
“Whole grain” means the grains used haven’t been stripped of their nutrients. “Multigrain” just means that multiple grains were used, but it says nothing of the level of refinement. Remember this when you're starting your day with a slice of toast.

5. Fewer ingredients means healthier food: When you must choose between two products and you’re stumped, just pick the one with the shorter list of ingredients. It’s almost always the right choice.

6. Work the edges:
In general, the healthiest food in the supermarket is found along the walls. The dairy case, produce, and meats and seafood are all found in the outlying regions of the market, while the inner aisles tend to be dominated by things that come in boxes, bags, or cans. Most of this vast nutritional dead zone is composed of highly processed foods--and the less time you spend in there, the better.

7. Brew your own coffee:
Instead of buying coffee from Starbucks, McDonald's, or the cafeteria at work, brewing your own coffee can save you over $800 a year!

8. Avoid quickies:
Instead, be thoughtful in your planning--keep a magnet-based notepad on your fridge and make notes throughout the week about what you need.

9. Bulk up:
Discount clubs are great cost-saving alternatives, even if you have to pay a fee to join. Focus on items that you use a lot and that won’t spoil, like paper products and frozen foods. Some shopping clubs also offer discounted gas.

10. Stop the retail therapy:
Sadness increased the amount of money that shoppers are willing to spend, according to a 2008 study in Psychological Science. Study participants who watched a sad film were willing to spend 4 times as much money for a product as those who watched a neutral film about nature.

      Become Irreplaceable

" In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different."
      ~ Coco Chanel

Have you ever wondering how you can be different from your work peers, in your classroom, in your team or how can you made a difference? Most of us have had this experience, and it can be quite frustrating. While you know, you are special and bring a lot of assets in what you do, maybe you are not feeling like others are valuing you as you are expecting or maybe you just feel like you are not doing enough. Therefore, you feel unmotivated and unhappy.

Here is a list I am personally applying to overcome this situation & feeling:

      1. Learn as much as you can: Not matter where I am, I am trying to learn something new. I love learning but I also do it because maybe some day I will need that knowledge for a great opportunity.
      2. Define the result: What is it you would like to accomplish? Define your goals so you know what your target is. Define if there is any problem which is a measurable result rather than something vague and generic. . Perhaps you want to answer a question, “What are some projects I can work on?”
      3. Write it down: Brainstorm on paper (or digital device). I’ve found that the moment I write an idea down, not only do I have a record of this idea, but more ideas will start to flow my way. Also, because I am the person who likes to check lists, I love the feeling of checking my list of accomplishments.
      4. Brainstorming: It’s an effective tool for helping to remove the mental roadblock and come up with ideas and solutions. Brainstorming is a method of generating ideas that allows the brain to think freely and use both sides of the brain to ideally come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. Brainstorming can be used whether you’re sorting out what to do to being seeing as an irreplaceable, or resolving a personal relationship issue. Brainstorming can help you hone in on the problem and come up with creative ways to approach it.

"Balance between Soul, Mind and Body"

"The most important relationship you have in your life,
is the relationship you have with yourself"
      ~Diane Von Furstenberg
      Hi Dear Readers,

In this post I wanted to share with you my journey of self-developing process. But first, let me explain where I was and where I am now...

On December 2008, I was 27 years old decided to leave my five years full time job and dedicate 100% to finish school and my self-development. The decision was tough and I am sure you can understand this, because I pay my own expenses, it was my first professional job; I was alone in this country.

My body and mind were screaming to me; asking me to take this decision. I couldn't handle this lifestyle anymore. For almost three years I was working and going to school in the same time. I guess things were going acceptable in both places. At school, I was obtaining average good grades and at work, I was obtaining promotions. However, one day when things went worst after finding that someone that I love in my family was really sick.

I remember really clearly how that day, the left side of my body was dumb but I didn’t stop and instead, I was trying to finish work and going to school for night classes. I realized that couldn't find me anymore, I didn’t know who I am; I was like a zombie walking for one place to another. I took vacations to visit my family who lived in another country (I moved to this country by myself) but this couldn’t help the feeling of unhappiness and emptiness I had.

Many people were keeping reminding me to take care of myself because even under my eyes were forming puffy purple bags. To make it worse, I was not happy of how I look and how I feel. I didn’t want to see myself in the mirror because I knew I was neglecting taking care of myself. Thus, I took the tough decision and left my full time job.

Since my decision to quit my job, things are much better but I am still in the process of recovery. Currently, I am still in school really close to graduate. I went for 3 months to Europe to study abroad and also took the opportunity to backpack around Europe. On the beginning of this year, 2010 I decided to participated in a 6 months co-op internship within my career field.

Regarding my mind and body, I don’t have the puffy purple bags anymore, I feel like smiling instead of crying from the nothing, I am starting practicing yoga and running at least 3 times a week. I am still in the fight to loss all the weight I put in the 5 years of work/school. I feel more motivated to live, creative, special and of course happier than ever.

Something that is still a challenge is to be more open and friendly to people. I used to be a social butterfly but I lost that on me. However, I am working on bringing this back and I can see in small steps that I am going in the correct path.

I am reading many self-developing books to help me in this process, reading magazines, attending seminars, watching videos, talking to different key people and writing this blog to help me in this process. I wish I can help others with my experience.

In a few words: “I am working hard to find the balance between my soul, mind and body”

Here is a Lyrics of the song "She works hard for the money" which is related to what most of us are doing every day:

She works hard for the money

      So hard for it honey

She works hard for the money

So you better treat her right

      And shes looking real pretty

      Just wait for her clientele

She works hard for the money

      So hard for it honey

She works hard for the money

So you better treat her right

Twenty [nine D:] years haveCome and gone

And she seen a lot of tears

Of the ones who come in

They really seem to need her there

Its a sacrifice working day to day

      But its worth it all

Just to hear them say that they care

Tips Before making your next "Vegetables and Fruits Shopping List

      Shop for color

Antioxidants are those chemicals in foods that give tomatoes their bright red sheen, broccoli that lush green color, and eggplant its deep purple skin. More important, they're the compounds that keep lines from creeping onto your face and cholesterol from clogging your arteries. And they take the prize when it comes to stiff-arming the aging process. These nutritional superheroes neutralize cell-damaging free radicals, which have been linked to everything from wrinkles and age spots to cancer and heart disease. "In addition to staving off the visible signs of getting older, antioxidants can go as far as to actually reverse age-related cell damage," says Bonnie Taub-Dix, R. D., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. What's more, research also points to a compelling connection between eating foods that are loaded with antioxidants and living a longer, healthier life.

Because different antioxidants tackle different aging concerns, your best bet is to get a variety of them. The easiest way to accomplish that is to eat fruits and vegetables of many colors, as each hue signifies a separate health benefit. For example, the antioxidants in berries help maintain cognitive and motor functioning, those found in pomegranates have been found to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, and broccoli and brussels sprouts contain compounds that help prevent breast cancer.

      When Adversity Comes

"Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are." ~Arthur Golden,Memoirs of a Geisha

      Hi Everyone,

Last weekend weekend I went to a beutiful place around Pensylvania to cheer a friend who was running for a marathon. While I was waiting for her to finish, I decided to run a couple miles around the farms. The view was a breath taker and I couldn't avoid taking pictures of this magical place. The picture in the top of this post is the "special one". It brought me the inspiration for this post.
I would like first for you to take a look on it and think what it means for you?

Have you going through those really tough moments where you feel that you dont have more energy to continue, more motivation or desire; where everything that you do goes wrong and nobody can understand you. You feel alone and to make it worst, you dont even can understand yourself?

There are times were we are looking for the light but we can only see the darkness and the winds are shaking us over and over. There are those times where we need take a break and "re-evaluate who we are, what we want and why". The goal is to see who we really are!

Here are 7 steps to overcome those challenging times:
      • Get Disturbe: Get honest with yourself, you have to be truthful. It can be painfull however there is a quote that says " Pain is your friend if you use it as your drive"
      • Make a Real Decision: If for instance you say: I am going to run 22 miles. This is a wrong way to make a real decision, because to make it happen, you need to have a reasons why you want to do it. Therefore, you need a plan," Massive Action Plan", you need to answer these questions: " What do you want" and Why you wanted"
      • Real Plan: Make a plan that its under your control. Brainstorm all the things you could do and then divided by "Must do" and "Can do". Put deadlines, the reasons why you are doing it , action plans, and the little things you can do it inmediatly. "Do things that really commit you, and be specific"
      • Change on Limited Beliefs: If you are certain of something, you are going to succed because you believe on it and you will work hard not matter what to going towars your goal. "Whatever you are doing and feeling its depending on your believes"
      • Set up the Game to Win: Create a plan in a way that its enjoable so you do it. For example,if your plan is to loose weight, make sure to combine your exercise rutine with something you like to do. For me is reading and music so I make sure to have a book with me when I jump on the treadmill so while I am warming for 5 minutes, I am reading a couple pages. Also, I am experimenting uploading new music or oganizaning my music every week so it can keep me moving.
      • Take Massive Action: Do it now, hire a trainer, call your friend or significant other and tell them your plan, but do something right now. Do something you will normally never do. Its a new beginning!
      • The Power of the Environment: You need to raise your standards and if you want to acomplish something, you need to be in the right environment with the right people who motivate you on it. I am not saying to forget about your current friends or family, you love them , keep it that way. But go after meeting new people or maybe reconect with friends who you know are going to help you or inspire you to achieve your goal.

I hope this tips help you. I am applying in my life and its changing the way of my living. I see myself achieven more goals. Its not easy but I am working to be better and to suceed I have to pay the price right? =)

      Power of Assertive Communication

      Hi Everyone,
In my experience of going throug being a student to an employee; I learned that one of the things that is most important is the power of knowing how to communicate while being confident and assertive.

The fact that I am in a different country from where I was raised, makes it more challenging regarding communication. The interaction with people from different parts of the world and how can you make your point across its challenging but essential.

I participated in a webinar regarding the Power of Assertive Communication and the following is what I got from it:

Assertive Communication is the way of communicating respecting people and ourselves. When we don’t want to be aggressive when we try to share, ask or provide information to others but in the same time we don’t want minimize ourselves when we communicate. For instance, if someone is asking us to do something that we are not able to do for things out of our control. We need to send a clear message saying “No” but professionally.

There are three common types of ineffective communication:
Passive Communication: A person who doesn’t respect themselves and let other people to take control of their own time, life, etc
Passive Aggressive: An example of someone Passive Aggressive is when someone uses sarcasm to get what he/she wants.
Aggressive: Someone who doesn’t respect others to get what he/she wants.

Tips to avoid failing in these common types of ineffective communication:

Write a Personal Mission Statement: It will help us to remind us what is important to us. Many of us grow up in a environment where we were taught to please people not matter what and make others happy. But there is a balance that we need to make sure to include in this lesson.
      Habit Breaks:
Words that takes away our message:
      “Sort of”, “Kind of”
      Minimizers:
      “Just”. “Little”
For example, have you hear people asking: “ Can I use a little bit of your time?” , this question is an indicator that its not going to take too much time but maybe the real message is “I need your help” or when we use “ Its just a little problem”
      Ending Statements with Question:
“Don’t you think?” here is a message of trying to look for approval. However, it can be use an strategy to engage people .
      Words to Lose:
“Sorry”, its good to be polite but the over use of this word can affect the messages you are trying to provide.

Put the Subject of the Sentence First:
Instead of: “ I have a problem with John getting to work late”
Use: “ Jane comes to work late and it’s a problem”

How to say “No” and still come across as a team player:
      Acknowledge the request (shows empathy)
      Decline (clear)
      Give a reason (brief)
      Suggest alternatives.

      Example:
“I recognize this is important and that you could use assistance. Under normal circumstances, I would stay. Today, however, I am not able to because a previous commitment and unable to break. I will definitively come tomorrow morning and make it my top priority.”

      Sacrifice Comfort for Style?

I took a road trip to Montreal-Canada for ester weekend. I thought I went prepare with some nice flat shoes, boats and tennis shoes (for running) but seems like I was not prepared enough for it.
Due to long walks, my flat shoes were killing me so I ended up buying new stylish sandals. Seems like people from Montreal really care about fashion no matter how hot or cold it is. We were in average 70 F degrees and because of this nice weather giving the welcome of spring, many people went out to enjoy the weather while doing some shopping as well.
What I learned from this trip regarding fashion is that “You don't have to sacrifice comfort for style” but how to avoid their threatening injuries?

      • High Heels: For sure, it makes us look sexy, but they can cause a lot of damage too. You can easily sprain an ankle or develop heel pain, plantar fasciitis. "We see heel pain often when changing from high heels to flats, but you can avoid this by doing stretching exercises after wearing heels," Also the recommendation is to limiting heel height to 2-3 inches, and buying shoes with a rubber sole or pads in the ball of the foot.

      • Oversized Purses: They are very popular because they can house an endless amount of stuff. But toting around a heavy bag can lead to postural imbalance and other back-related ailments. What you lug in your purse and how you carry it makes all the difference
Large Carry-All"A large bag slung over one shoulder is a neck problem in the making,” To combat this you should continually switch shoulders and look for bags with adjustable straps. "An adjustable strap is great because you can carry it on either shoulder or across the body. Doing this will use different muscles and reduce the chance of aches and pains from overuse

      • Small Tote (worn at the elbow): Another common trend is to hold your purse perched at the elbow. Doing this can cause a lot of strain on your forearm.
Messenger BagThe mailman-inspired bag is a huge fall trend and, luckily, a better option. A well-designed one keeps the weight close to your body and prevents you from raising your shoulders unevenly.

      • Dangly Earrings: Wearing heavy earrings can damage the ear lobes and, in some cases, lead to tears and surgery. "Any dangling type of earring that pulls down on the earlobe--especially if it distorts or lengthens it--is too heavy to use,"
If your pierced hole starts to sag, there are surgical procedures to repair it, but that should be a last resort. Don't write off dangly earrings altogether, but limit them to an hour or two, as long as they don't cause you pain.

      Tips for Beutiful Hair

      Hair tips # 1: Don't over-wash your hair
Ever wonder why women in Europe or Asia, or for that matter anywhere outside the United States, have such amazingly healthy-looking hair? They do not, I repeat, do not wash their hair every day. They go at least two or three days between washes, letting their natural scalp oils coat and nourish their strands. Now I know there are some women out there saying, "You're absolutely nuts. I go to the gym, run, do yoga, and sweat, so my hair has to be washed every day." Take it from me, it doesn't. Instead, just give your hair a good rinse with water and follow with minimal product to avoid buildup. I promise, soon you'll find that you have a head full of lustrous, healthy hair.

Hair tips # 2: Learn to love leave in conditioner
If you give your hair a break from shampoo, it will dry out less and won't require much conditioner. That said, I am sort of addicted to leave in conditioner and recommend massaging one into damp hair on days you do wash. It gives your do just the right amount of moisture it needs to stay soft and adds a bit of texture and hold too.

Hair tips # 3: Stock up on dry shampoo
This is a permanent fixture in my styling case because it has so many uses. For example, you can dust dry shampoo on to absorb excess oil when you've gone too long between washes. Or you can use it to give fine hair some oomph—just apply it at your roots all over your head and brush through.

Hair tips # 4: Accessorize with caution
Steer clear of elastic bands with metal closures; although they might look harmless, they literally rip out your hair. Instead, use cloth-only ponytail holders to create "cruelty-free" tails and updos.

Hair tips # 5: Layer styling products
When working with a new styler—anything from mousse to pomade—take baby steps. Remember, you can always add product, but removing it is not so easy and can leave you with a serious case of the greasies. Begin with an extra-small dollop and build up from there. Another smart move: Apply stylers to the back of your head first. That way, even if you accidentally used too much product, you won't end up with a big, unsightly glob of it where everyone can see. And when it comes to hair spray, spritz it onto your hands first, then smooth them over the top of your head for a nonsticky finish.

Hair tips # 6: Make the (right) cut
If your hair is fine, ask your stylist to "blunt-cut" it. This is a styling technique where scissors are used to snip straight across each and every strand, creating thickness at your ends. And if your mane still lacks body, wrap large, dry sections around Velcro rollers, mist with hair spray, blow-dry briefly, and unwind for insta-volume.

Hair tips # 7: Pick the best brush
I have tried just about everything out there to get rid of static— and feel strongly that boar bristle hair brushes are the best at detangling and boosting shine without inducing flyaways. But the catch is that these brushes can be costly. The perfect compromise? Choose one of the boar bristle hair brushes that combines natural and synthetic bristles for all the gleam minus the price.

Hair tips # 8: Color your do on the cheap
I'll let you in on a big secret: If you're on a tight budget, do a little research and find a beauty school near you (go online or look in the yellow pages under "cosmetology"). On Fridays and Saturdays, the students usually run a salon, and for a small fee they will color your hair. Even though a student is applying the dye, she is being watched over by an experienced teacher. It's a win-win situation: The students get the training, you get the discount!

Hair tips # 9: Fix wayward strands
Got a strong cowlick or part? Once you've styled your whole do, go back to the section that's misbehaving and run a drop of gel through it (any level of hold will do). Then brush the area to the side you'd like it to gravitate toward and blast with a hair dryer.

      Hair tips # 10: Avoid a "blow-fry"
If you have a dryer with a metal nozzle, be careful not to touch your hair with that thing! It can get really, really hot and do damage to your hair. Use the nozzle only to direct heat, and opt for a dryer with a plastic attachment.

      Hair Style

Last night I was trying to do something new with my hair, after fighting about it, I decided to put this hair clips and I love it! It sticks like glue but still looks natural.
To be honest, I bought for $13 dollars but I decided to make some by myself so I just bought some material and I will be working on it during the week.
I will take a picture to show it to you ok?

Regarding Hair Style, I found 3 types of ways how I do my hair during the week and here are my advices for each of them:

Waiver: Use a defining hair curls with a moisturizing cream. Work it in when wet, then air-dry-practically hassle-free. You can use sunsill captivating curls de-frizz lean-n creme $4

Sleek: For a straight hair with sleek, grassy effect, air dry, then flat iron with a heat-protecting, sleekifying hairspray. You can use Straight Sexi Hair Smooth & Protect Flat Iron Hairspray $16

A chic Ponytail: 1. Starting with dry hair, spray volumizer at your roots, then blast them with a blow dryer (this is the way to activate any wet product you want to use on dry hair, Dornan explains). 2. Spritz the rest of your hair with texturizing spray all the way to the ends. 3. Brush your hair into a low, loose ponytail. Concentrate on pulling the sides tighter as you leave volume at the top. Secure hair tightly with an elastic at the nape of your neck. 4. Set only the sides with hairspray. Then stop—you’re done. “It’s tempting to polish up, but try to resist,” says Dornan. “You want it to look a little raw.”

      How to Develop Self-Discipline

      Hi Everyone,

Its finally Friday and I am happy planning how I am going to spend my weekend. Lately I start doing yoga and running and so far I am feeling good but I just need to put more discipline on it.
I was looking for a good topic to share with you today and because of what I am going through regarding exercise; I decided to search for how to develop self discipline.
"Perhaps no other skill is as important to develop as self-disciple or self-control. It is the key to self-mastery and the achievement of your dreams."

Now, let’s look at some steps you can take to increase your personal power.

      1. Acknowledge your own responsibility. Admit that if you sit around doing nothing, you will achieve nothing.

      2. Allow yourself to feel the resistance. For example, if you are like me who is trying to achieve self discipline working out, but don’t feeling too much energy to do it, say something like the following to yourself. “I don’t feel like working out today. I feel like pursuing some pleasure instead. But rather than running away, I allow myself to feel the resistance and I admit I need to work out. I also need to develop self-discipline. And doing what we don’t like to do develops self-discipline. So, I welcome this opportunity to kill two birds with one stone (work out for my own health and develop self-discipline).”

      3. Take a few deep breaths. Relax and let go of any tension. Pause and visualize the action as if it were already completed. Study the image of the completed project in your mind for a few moments. This step prepares both your conscious mind and subconscious for action.

      4. Now act. After doing so, you will feel a sense of relief as you free yourself from the stress that comes from ignoring an important task. Second, you will enjoy the pleasure of accomplishment. Third, you will discover the task was easier to do than you first imagined.

      5. Relish the relief and pleasure you experience. Remember it. Savor it. Focus on it. For it will become the source of motivation. At first, the lure of relief and pleasure will be weak and the memory of it dim, but as you repeatedly do what you don’t feel like doing, the motivation to act will grow stronger and stronger, until a firm habit is formed.

      6. Those who haven’t yet developed the habit of self-discipline avoid tasks because they focus on the effort that needs to be made. In their minds, effort is synonymous with discomfort. Change what you focus on. When facing a new task, focus on the relief and pleasure you will be experiencing. Also focus on the memory of how your imagination tricks you, always blowing things out of proportion. Remember that the task will be easier to do than your now believe.

      7. When you launch your personal Self-Discipline Development Program, you will do two things: complete tasks and develop self-discipline. Of the two, developing self-discipline is more important. For once you have mastered that you will be able to do anything. So, it is important to be successful. Therefore, when starting out, don’t decide to work on the most urgent task, but choose the easiest one first and work your way up. Pretend you are working out in a gym for the first time. If you begin by trying to lift 100 lb. weights, you will probably feel overwhelmed and quickly give up. But if you start with 10 lb. weights, your workouts will be easy to do and your successes will motivate you to move on to bigger challenges. Take baby steps and work your way up. Trying to bite off more than you can chew will lead to failure.

      8. Be gentle but firm with yourself. Act firmly in that you stop running away. Face your task, accept it, and accomplish it. Finish what you start. Follow through on every project. Focus on one task at a time. Don’t scatter your attention. But be gentle in the sense that you don’t have to do all your tasks immediately as long as you start doing some. Don’t expect to go from zero to a hundred in one second. Work up to it. Start slowly, but gradually pick up the pace as you develop your skills.

      9. Expect to be tempted to avoid your tasks. Your mind will come up with rationalizations and excuses for putting off till ‘tomorrow’ what can be done today. Remain aware of your feelings and learn to think before you act. Use your reason (rational mind), not your emotions, to guide your actions. Do what is good FOR you instead of what FEELS good.

      10. Once you learn how to quickly act on all the tasks, responsibilities, and challenges facing you, you will want to remain fit, always ready to act. Keep in shape by deliberately going out of your way to do things you don’t want to do, even if they are unimportant. The truth is, nothing is unimportant, for if doing something trivial helps maintain your self-discipline, it is no longer trivial. Remember that it is just like working out in a gym. After all, the workout I choose to do is unimportant; it is only the result (physical fitness) that is important. The same is true for your mental fitness. Look for opportunities during the day to ‘work out. ’

      11. Once you can keep your level of self-discipline, you will be ready to move on to the next level by stretching yourself. Now you deliberately seek out difficult and complex challenges that you only dared to dream about in the past. Now that you have mastered self-control, you are ready to make those dreams come true. At this point, you are no longer paralyzed by task-avoidance. Each task you do frees up more time to work on the next project. You have now started on the path of endless growth.Life is not something that happens to you, but you are something that happens to life. Decide today to give up the blame game and take responsibility for your own life by mastering the art of self-discipline.

      10 BlackBerry Commandments

I am not a big fan of cell phones. To be honest, I don’t really like to talk in mine; I prefer texting, or chatting in person. However with the technology boom and all this new kind of cell phones, everyone has one, and something that annoy me most is to see people who plan a meeting with you but spend half of their meeting talking with someone else in her cell.

So, this post goes for those who are starting to be concern of why they are spending less time physically enjoying people who they love, or why their children are jealous of you spending time with your PDA or cell, boyfriends/girlfriends who start a fight just because you cant leave your cell resting.. Step away from the Blackberry, at least every once in a while and enjoy life!!!

Here it goes the 10 commandments:

      1. Thou shalt not take the BlackBerry to any table with food on it or family around it. A BlackBerry is not a fruit, nor does it come from a tree.

      2. Thou shalt not use the BlackBerry as reading material in the event of insomnia. It will only worsen your situation.

      3. Thou shalt not BlackBerry in lieu of responding to a child's request (e.g., "Wait a second, I'm reading something.").

      4. Thou shalt not place the BlackBerry within distance of hearing its incessant beeps while at home. It is not a bird.

      5. Thou shalt not check BlackBerry as if it were your baby. It will not cry or stop breathing.

      6. Thou shalt not confuse number of e-mails with self-worth.

      7. Thou shalt do everything possible to misplace your BlackBerry on weekends. "There's No Place Like Home" will never be the tagline for the BlackBerry company.

      8. Thou shalt remember that a BlackBerry is not a body appendage. It is a device that belongs in your briefcase or on your desk, and not in social settings.

      9. Thou shalt refrain from bringing the BlackBerry to events involving family interaction. Extraneous dialogue with this contraption in lieu of real conversation suggests addiction.

      10. Thou shalt never, ever, ever bring the BlackBerry to bed. Do this and you are BlackBuried!
